Missy Haggerty is a born and raised Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn native. On the night of Hurricane Sandy, Missy – along with Peter McCandless – assisted in the evacuation of neighbors along their 27 home court of bungalows, many of them elderly, as the storm surge began to flood their homes. While enough to deserve an award in itself, Missy has tirelessly been serving her south Brooklyn neighbors for the past three plus years. A strong advocate for her community, Missy has become both the harshest critic and most valuable ally of city agencies still seeking to assist Brooklyn residents with resilient rebuild of their community. Missy’s love for her neighbors, shown both in word and deed, is why New York Disaster Interfaith Services at their Annual Meeting and Partnership Awards honored Missy as its 2016 Brooklyn Volunteer of the Year.
Congratulations, Missy, from your Resurrection Sheepshead Bay family! Thank you for all the ways you serve our neighbors and our church well.
